Usergroup Guide & FAQ
Written by Arkyls

Here is a comprehensive guide about the usergroups on IDS, what they're for and how to use them. This is also a place to read if you're having issues with the usergroups and how to solve them or who to contact to get assistance on the matter.
____________

OOC & STAFF USERGROUPS.
These groups are bolded and usually are represented by bright colours. This is to make it easier to find any staff members online for any assistance you may need. For a detailed description of each of these usergroups and what they do, click here.

OOC usergroups will never be available to join freely. They are either chosen by a democratic format by nominations or you can apply for one of these roles when they are available. If you are interested in joining one of these jobs, please keep an eye out in the Town Hall for openings.

- Admin/"Host Admin"
- Moderator/”Guardian”
- Admin Assistant
- Tech Assistant
- Character Directory Organizer
- Roleplay Organizer
- Advertiser Extraordinaire

There is one other "role" membergroup and that is for all the main accounts for any Pack Alphas. This is optional for these members to have this as their display group, but it is crucial for discussion and input purposes. If you are an alpha of a board pack and do not see this listed under your "Group Memberships" tab, please contact an Admin Assistant or Guardian to have this corrected.
____________

IC ROLEPLAY USERGROUPS.
These groups are coloured based on the general theme or feel for each pack and typically are represented by softer, lighter colours. These groups are for those who like to roleplay their characters with different accounts where they can categorize them based on the pack that they are currently involved in. For an overview as to what each of these packs are like, click here.

IC roleplay usergroups will always been available to join freely.

- Alteron
- Borogrove
- Death Valley/Oukoku-Kai
- Gemini
- Inaria
- Nardir
- Saboro
- Tortuga
- Reach
- Nomad

How to Join a Usergroup.
Drag the images to your URL bar to enlarge.

1. Go to the top menu and click “user panel.”

2. Scroll down and along the left side under “Miscellaneous” should be a “Group Memberships” tab.

3. You’ll see a list of groups you can join; they should be all of the above ic usergroups, you’ll also see groups you’re a member of. Your default usergroup should be Packmate. If it is not, please look at the FAQ section for assistance.

4. Now select the group you’d like to join.

5. Once you’ve done that, you will see your selection listed under the “Groups you’re a member of.” Now, it won’t automatically set it as your display group, you will have to do that yourself. All you have to do is click the “Set as Display Group” and then, voila! You’re done.

If at any time your character changes packs or you simply wish to leave a membergroup, simply click the “leave group” option to the right. You can join a new group or re-join the same group again at any time.

FAQ.

What is the point of usergroups? Why are there so many?
We've used the usergroups as a method for easily identifying staff and IC accounts for new and old members. IDS originally had only OOC membergroup colours, but with growing interest we introduced the IC membergroups so members could add a little extra to their roleplay accounts. This also helps for those who may use similar or in some cases, the same, names for their OOC/Main accounts and their RP accounts.

Why does the Reach only have one membergroup?
The Reach always changes up, some packs last longer than others. For this reason, we don't feel it is necessary to create individual membergroups for each of the packs. This also serves as an extra bonus for Reach packs that may successfully challenge to board status to recieve their own unique membergroup.

My default usergroup isn’t Packmate. What do I do?
Please contact an Admin Assistant or Guardian with the below information. Please note, new accounts should not have this issue. This is a common problem for transferred accounts from our old forum.

Code:
[b]Account name:[/b]
[b]Usergroups you should be apart of:[/b]
[b]Usergroup you want as display:[/b]

My account isn't showing my membergroup! What do I do?
Make sure you've set your Display Group. Go into your Group Membership tab and select the "(Set Display Group)" option beside your desired group.

Why do Nomad, Packmate and Pack Alpha look the same. What's the difference?
While these three groups don't have any colours for their usernames, they are different. Nomad is an IC group, meant for characters that are not within any pack. This is simply to give those accounts something to help differieniate IC from OOC. Packmate is the default user group when a new member joins, and is typically for OOC accounts. Pack Alpha is for OOC accounts, and is members who are play alpha characters on our board packs. They have their own membergroup for input and discussion purposes, and to be easily identifiable to those who may be looking for specific people.

Do I have to use these membergroups?
No, there is no rule to having to use them, but we highly encourage it.

I don't want to use them. They hurt my eyes/I find them confusing/I don't like the pack colour.
There is no requirement to use these membergroups if you decide you do not wish to.

I want my main account to have a colour! Can I add it to a pack membergroup?
We'd appreciate if IC membergroups are exclusively used for IC accounts. That's what they're there for!

I want my own membergroup! Can I create one?

Unfortunately our membergroups are for specific purposes and we do not take requests for new ones.

Border Status, Current Acceptances & AA Form.
Posted by: Mother Moon - July 26, 2017, 01:57:33 PM - No Replies

As Nardir's territory is widespread and lush with both animal and plant life, the borders will almost always be open for newcomers.
Sometimes, however, we may close the borders during hard times (hard winters, plagues, etc.) or during festivals.

Currently the borders of Nardir are OPEN!

Who can accept?
- the zenith point
- parallax
- jovian winds

Jovian Wind and Parallax trainees are allowed and encouraged to join acceptances for training if the person taking the acceptance has said it was okay. For instance, Puffin always wants trainees to join in Puffin's acceptances. If you are not ranked as one of the above, please do not interfere with/post in acceptance threads unless otherwise stated! We'd like to keep those threads as short as possible so that those being accepted can move ahead and get started in Nardir.

Auto-Acceptance Form
In the event that you do not wish to play out your acceptance via acceptance thread, you may simply send in the AA form to any alpha account (Alana/Julek/Puffin) and we will look over and accept your request. You may also apply for a rank when submitting the form; however, your character will be accepted as a trainee for the desired rank, no AA member is automatically a full-fledged member of their desired rank.

Submit the form below to either the Julek, Alana, or Puffin accounts. If your AA request has not been answered in five days, please PM Hayley or Uri on our main accounts.

AA Form

Code:

Nardir Designs

Want to create a character specifically for Nardir? We have a design thread with designs and adoptable characters for Nardir. These characters may be auto-accepted and even auto-ranked if you so desire. Simply post in the thread with the character or design of your choosing and one of us will get back to you.

Any questions, comments, or concerns can be directed to either Alana/Hayley, Julek/Uri, or Puffin, thanks!

Star IDS Newbie Start-Up Guide
Posted by: Forum Guardian - July 03, 2017, 09:09:58 PM - No Replies

Newbie Start-Up Guide
Welcome to In Dire Straits, a semi-realistic feral RPG with light fantasy elements. We’re happy to have you!

This guide compiles all the essential things you need to begin your sparklewolf adventure. Before diving in, please take a moment to glance through the following threads so we don’t have to rehash their contents:

Character Creation.
While visual references are NOT required on IDS, we have templates you can use to design your character if you want. You may also use artwork, provided it was made by you, made for you, or for-free-use (such as stock photos).

If you don’t want to make one yourself, check out our Adoption board or Design adoption board, which feature both pre-made characters and blank slate designs.

Writing a Character Profile.
A profile tells the forum all about your character! On IDS, we do not have word counts or set profile outlines - design it however you want, and include any information or decorations you desire. We only have a small amount of required information that must be posted for the profile to be sorted into the directory, and you do NOT need to wait for your profile to be sorted to start roleplaying! With exceptions to characters requiring moderator approval, such as non-standardized hellbeasts and characters over the height limit for their species, you can begin soon as you post your profile - unless it has been moved to the Corrections Needed board, in which case you must not roleplay that character until the profile has been amended.

IDS does not delete character profiles unless asked to by the player. If you leave and come back, your character will be just where you left them.

Minimum required information in a profile-
Name:
Species:
Height: (see information about heights/weights here
Weight:
Personality:

If you want a simple, free use profile outline with only the most necessary information to get started, we suggest using one of the ones listed here!

For additional information on Character Creation, go here.

Roleplaying Your Character.
Once your profile is posted, you are free to roleplay your character. We do not have word count minimums for posts, and writers of all skill levels make up our community. If you want to practice in a more easygoing board, consider trying the Neutral Territory first - it is a more forgiving environment where you don’t need to worry about following a pack’s set rules.

There are no forum-wide activity requirements, and your characters will not be deleted from the forum due to inactivity. However, packs may have their own activity requirements, and you may be removed from a pack’s rank listing if you do not post for a certain amount of time. This can often be remedied by discussing with the pack’s alpha, or posting a goodbye thread ahead of time to let them know you will be away. Being removed from a pack for inactivity does not mean your character cannot be picked up later and roleplayed elsewhere, but it is best to discuss with the pack’s alpha to make sure.

Replies on IDS might be slower paced than some other forums - just because someone hasn't replied to your thread for a couple weeks doesn't mean they don't want to roleplay with you any longer! We are simply a more laid-back community and some people take longer to reply to threads, so don't feel bad if you take a while to reply, either!

Joining a Pack.
First you need to find a pack you like! Read the board descriptions to get an idea of what each pack stands for, and especially check out the Pocket Guide to Packs and Prides for more in depth information on each pack! Each one has a different culture and set of rules-- some are violent, some are peaceful, some don’t accept certain species. If you aren’t sure which pack is best suited for your character, you’re always welcome to ask the forum for advice.

If you are not sure if your character would fit in your favorite pack, whether it be because of a clashing personality or the species of your character, talk with the alphas! Oftentimes exceptions are made and lead to great plots.

Once you choose a pack, check the information available to see if borders are open and if you can just jump in there! Many packs take different kinds of acceptances, including traditional and auto-acceptance.

Traditional acceptance: Post a thread about your character at the border of the pack you’d like to join with the word “Acceptance” clearly marked in the title, and a corresponding member of that pack will answer it.
Auto-acceptance: You do not have to roleplay an acceptance thread in order to be a part of the pack. Many packs will clearly state if they are accepting auto-accepted characters and explain their process. You can adopt a character from the Character Adoption board, adopt a design from a pack’s individual threads in the Character Design board, or possibly messaging the alpha your character information if they’re allowing it.

Playing in Neutral Territory.
The Neutral Territory consists of everything within the IDS world outside packlands. This board is inherently consent, meaning your character cannot be killed or injured without your permission. It makes a good practice area for this reason!

You are under no obligation to join a pack. It’s okay to just play in Neutrals, though it’s easier to find plots in the packs.

Finding Roleplay Partners.
The easiest way to find a partner is to post in the Roleplay and Plot Requests board. Link your character profile along with any information that might help explain what you’re looking for (a meet-and-greet thread? A plot? Which pack to join?), and you’ll have replies in no time.

Participating in the Community.
We have a discord you can join if you would like to talk to forum members over IM. Otherwise, our OOC sections are very chatty.

The Introductions Board: A place to say hello and tell us a little bit about yourself.
The Spam Bin: A place of nonsense. Random topics and chitchat.
General Discussion: For more serious topics. Less memes, usually.
Health and Personal Concerns: A safe space for members to talk about off-site problems and receive support and advice.
Creative Corner: Are you an artist? Do you like coloring bases? Poetry? This is the place for you. You can also buy and sell designs and commissions here, but we caution against joining the forum only to sell stuff as the community finds that very rude.
General Discord Chat: Do our OOC boards seem quiet? Check our our Discord server! Our community is very active on Discord.

  Creating a Hellion
Posted by: Forum Guardian - July 03, 2017, 09:05:02 PM - Replies (2)

Originally written by former moderator TheSlave. Revisions and additions by Cooper. Revisions by Corg. Revised and rewritten by Vana and Red Team. Revisions by Puffin.

HELLION GUIDELINES.

---

When the world was new and air still fresh, there was the hellhound. Born beyond the Fringe and elsewhere along the world, they are a result of nature's ambition gone awry. The ultimate product of several different species, their lineage is both terrible in its ultimate result and grand in its complexity. Most are twisted beasts, having broken up from their pack-like nature to forge new bonds elsewhere, or simply unaware that their ancestry has made them incapable of socializing with others. Regardless of their individual plight, the Hellion is a fascinating creature with a diverse set of traits and mutations to which no two look alike.

---

BANNED TRAITS.
Functional Wings | Sharp/Retractable Talons (on things that aren't cats) | Gigantism | Saber Fangs (on things that aren't cats) | Tail Spikes

BORDERLINE TRAITS.
recommended only in non-aggressive characters, or with a suitable explanation
Bone Spikes (Horns on body) | Quills | Venom (must be non-fatal)

ACCEPTABLE TRAITS.
Horns (all types) | Modified Tongues | Modified/Multiple Tails (within reason1) | Multiple Limbs/Eyes (within reason2) | Modified Anatomy | Altered/Stiffened Fur or Furlessness | Bioluminescence (Glowing)3 | Scales/Scutes4 | Wings5

1Multiple tails may not act independently of each other.
2Extra limbs and ornamental extra eyes must not be fully functional, and eyes must be placed within the vicinity of the usable eyes, and must decrease the vision of the working eyes.
3Bioluminescence must cover less than 50% of a hellion's body, and may not be controlable by the character.
4On mammal-based hellions, scales must cover less than 25% of the hellion's body.
5WINGS:
  • Wings that form a third pair of limbs connected to a quadruped's shoulders may be made of bone, cartilage, or soft tissue and may have musculature allowing for a range of movement consistent with small gestures and general expressiveness. Wings may not allow the creature to fly, hover, glide, shove, or move another creature with any degree of force.
  • The length of a character's wingspan may be at most 25% longer than the height of the character. For example, A 3' tall wolf may have a wingspan of 3'9" (36" x 1.25 = 45") resulting in each wing measuring 22".
  • Wings may not have attached claws, spores, poison, or anything that might be used to harm another character.
  • Wings formed from a membrane attached to a quadruped's forelegs like a bat's wings or a sugar glider's patagium may have limited movement, but at the expense of the character's overall ease of movement.

Typically, the moderators evaluate Hellion for approval based on two major factors: number of traits and personality. A Hellion with several hell-traits might be more readily accepted if it's personality is more neutral or passive, as opposed to one that constantly engages in fights. This is not to say that we will not allow a war-monger hound with 7 different traits, but we might be more skeptical about accepting it for roleplay if it has traits that are obviously an attempt at an advantage in fights. We encourage creativity, and as such, we do not have any guaranteed approved traits list, merely suggestions to give you ideas of traits to give your character. Those listed above are merely suggestions, and do not guarantee that a hellhound with those traits will be automatically accepted. However, drawbacks to more extreme traits must be kept realistic. If you want your hellhound to have giant deer antlers, include a drawback such as shedding yearly, sensitive skin, or that they're otherwise blunt and cannot be used as weapons.

More outlandish traits, or traits on the "borderline" list above, should have an adequate biological explanation for their appearance and evolution. The more plausible the reasoning, the more likely it is to be accepted.

---

HEIGHT & LENGTH GUIDELINES.

Primarily wolf-type canines with hellion blood as well as their associated hybrids (canine-feline and canine-ursine cross species) can only reach a maximum height of 3'6". Other types of hellions and cross-species hybrids of naturally larger species such as felines, horses, deer, mammoths, etc. may reach larger heights and will be judged on a case-by-case basis by the moderators.

Average length for a timberwolf is 6'5" (including tail).

The length guidelines have been revised for Hellions that exhibit certain anatomical traits. Hellions that wish to be longer than average need to dock 0.5 inch off the height in order to add that to the length.

Example:
Decreased by 0.5 inch:
Height of 3'0" = 7'0" in length
Height of 2'5" = 7'5" in length
Height of 2'0" = 8'0" in length

However, exceptions can be made for length if the Hellion doesn't have many traits attached to the design. Every length will be assessed in a case by case approval. The length guideline is more lenient than the strict height rule. Length is applied to Hellions that have 'longer' anatomy such as reptilian or "eastern dragon" anatomy. It is now required that length be added to all Hellion profiles.

---

BREEDING & OFFSPRING.

If you have a Hellion that happens to crossbreed and the offspring have no visible Hellion traits or Standardized traits, it is no longer required that you submit the offspring for moderator approval.

What hellion unions may produce offspring is limited the same way as which cross species unions may produce offspring. A canine-based hellion may not breed with a crocodile-based hellion, just as a wolf could not breed with a crocodile. As the forum has embraced more closely related cross-species unions, such as canines and foxes, and canines and felines, hellions with those bases may also breed.

---

ALTERNATE HELLION SPECIES.

Though Hellions are the most common, alternate hell-species are welcome. Please follow any height and length guidelines for the "base" species (a hell-rabbit should follow the same requirements for a mundane rabbit), as well as all other guidelines listed here, to submit an alternate hellion.

Please understand that the moderators may be more strict on approving alternate species known to be aggressive or otherwise designed for combat. Plan your traits accordingly!

---

EXOTIC HYBRIDS.

With the rise of exotic hybrids such as fox wolves or cat dogs, these hybrids will now be classified as hellions and must follow the height rules and any other rules under the hellion guideline. Hellions that are the result of a cross-species union are considered 100% hellion and may have any of the standardized traits.
Acceptable Hybrids:  Fox/Wolf; Feline/Wolf or Dog; Bear/Wolf or Dog.

---

HELL HUMANS.

Hell humans may have standard hellion traits (horns, elongated claws, elongated canines, etc.) and some typically "anthro" traits (animal ears and tails) but not more substantial body modifiable traits such as animal heads, hands, feet, or fur. It is extremely unlikely that non-mammalian traits such as wings or gills will be approved on hell humans.

On Challenging Board Packs for Land or Leadership
Posted by: Forum Guardian - July 03, 2017, 02:47:14 AM - Replies (4)

The Reach, The Strait, & You: A Guide to Pack Challenges
rewritten by scratch

Packs on IDS are generally divided into two categories: the Reach, where all packs start out, and the Strait, or the main forum boards and packlands. Generally, the Reach is for smaller, quieter, newer packs, while packs in the Strait, or “board packs,” have reached a level of consistent activity and membership in order to graduate to their own board, represent the forum on the front page, and appear on the official map.

There is no IC difference between the two type of packs; it's purely OOC organization. Characters will not be able to tell a Reach pack from a Board pack.

To learn more about creating a pack in the Reach, please see the Reach Guidebook. Below you will find information on how Reach packs may become fully-fledged board packs.

Becoming a Board Pack

There are currently 6 board pack positions available on the front page of IDS. Petitions to add another space are not being accepted at this time. This means that any Reach pack looking to graduate from the Reach to the front page must challenge a current pack for their board spot, and may do so using the following guidelines:
  1. The Reach pack should have existed for a minimum of six months, and have been active for that time. Activity requirements are listed on the challenge form below.
  2. Following any challenge, the winning pack is immune to challenges for six months. The losing pack must wait six months before their next challenge.
  3. Board packs that lose their challenge will not be deleted or disbanded, but are instead moved to the Reach. This can include the original territory, meaning nothing has to ICly change for the defeated pack, if agreed on.
  4. Both sides must agree on the terms of the fight, including consent/no consent, number of participants, victory stipulations, etc. Moderators can help with this at any time. Default challenge terms are:
    1. Consent.
    2. One alpha participant on each side.
    3. Three day deadline between posts.
    4. A maximum time limit of 15 days, judged by the moderators upon concluding.
    5. No extra conditions (such as enslaving losing characters).
  5. Challenged board packs may submit a rebuttal to justify keeping their board slot, usually based on activity.
  6. It is highly recommended that you challenge inactive board packs. Challenging highly active packs is less likely to see your application approved without extensive IC justification.
  7. Pettiness, rude behavior, or any lack of civility are grounds to have a challenged nullified at moderator discretion at any time. We understand challenges can be tense, but please be polite!

This Pack is SEMI-CONSENT
Any species is allowed to join Alteron, and the setting is very similar to a Pacific temperate rainforest. Temperate rainforests in general are coniferous or broadleaf forests that occur in the temperate zone and receive heavy rainfall.

Summary:
Alteron is a cloak and dagger kingdom, an empire of a rich history and ever expanding roots. A kingdom built on the backs of betrayers and betrayals. Where any word could have a hidden meaning, or a whispered threat.

This Pack is NO-CONSENT
It only accepts wolves or wolf mixes, and the setting is a desert scrub valley housing tar pits surrounded by dense forest.

Summary:
A wolf pack revolving around a savage religion based on four gods. Three Rosa, and the Red Dragon. The Rosa are worshiped, each for their own qualities, and members choose a Rosa to follow based on this. The Red Dragon is feared and hated by most, worship of her is forbidden. The wolves of the valley strive to be what a wolf should be, brave, instinctual, intelligent, and feral. Outsiders are considered heathens and non wolf species are generally not admitted.

General Information | Setting | Ranks
This Pack is CONSENT
It accepts all species, and the setting contains mountains, grasslands, rocky beaches, and woodlands.

Summary:
A home for refugees, misfits and those trying to redefine themselves, Gemini is a pack focused on inclusivity and safety. We value in-character development and out-of-character communication; we foster an ever-changing place to roleplay and an “anything goes!” mindset. Because of our system of developing everything in-character, there is ample opportunity for anyone to leave their mark on the pack. We encourage the participation and representation of everyone!

Kay [Ghost] | Eve [Haven] | Arkyls [Xenia] | Kotake [Kashmir]

General Information | Setting | Ranks | Jacana Dires
This Pack is CONDITIONAL CONSENT
It accepts all canines (other species with alpha approval), and the setting is a forest filled with famed purple flowering trees, rolling hills, blooming meadows, and temperate beaches.

Summary:
Inaria is a proud and ancient kingdom. Living amongst the famous flowering trees and clear streams, Inarians have always been known as peaceful and noble, blessed by providence. However, the truth is always more complicated than that - under the beautiful surface and proud culture there is in fact a long-suffering populace who have always had to fight for their home and their principles. Inarians are known for their dignity, kindness, and propriety, but despite the pleasant face they show the world, they regard themselves as a lone bastion of goodness in a world filled with enemies and disaster. They will defend their home at all costs.

This Pack is NO-CONSENT
It accepts all species (hellions might be avoided under suspicion of witchcraft), and the setting is an abandoned human town.

With a strong sense of community and dedication to one another, Borogrove is the perfect place to shelter from the harsh elements of the outside world. Here, animals of all kinds coexist, protecting one another from danger, living and learning beneath the shadow of old stone buildings and monoliths. But sometimes the smiles are too wide, and show too many teeth. The cries of ‘DEVIL!’ and ‘WITCH!’ pierce the air. The forsaken are dragged from their beds at night and swing from the gallows come morning. Fear and paranoia is absolute, but manipulated by all.

Information is important to this group, so if you come asking for help, they will gladly take when you know in exchange for what you need. This pack is growing over IC development so there is plenty of opportunity to shape the pack as an individual. While this is primarily a feline pride, canines and hellions are welcome.

Thumbs Up FAQ (tweaking)

The FAQ
"Frequently Asked Questions"!

Roleplay Specific

How many characters do I get per account?
We do not restrict character amount. You may roleplay as many as you want from one account or make side accounts for each character (referred to as “personas” on the forum). Please enter real emails because you will need to activate your account upon creation. You can use the same email for several accounts.

When can I start roleplaying?
For most characters, you can begin rping as soon as you post your profile. You do not need to wait for sorting. If there is an issue, a Directory Organizer will move your thread into the Problems and Corrections board. Hellions with more than standardized traits and characters over the height limit require moderator approval.

What sort of RP'ing style is used here?
We generally write multi-paragraph posts. Some members write more or less than others, but we do not have a word count. Shortform (Discord, Pesterchum, Skype, Google Docs, etc.) is allowed for Private Rps that would not reasonably require the attention of outside rpers, such as pack rule breaking, escaping, trespassing, or challenges, unless you have permission from pack alphas.

I don't think I'm a very good writer. Can I still join?
Of course, we allow all levels of writing skill.

What sort of species am I allowed to roleplay here?
Any species (and then some) around and after 10,000 BC(E) may be roleplayed on this forum. This includes but not limited to sabretooth tigers, dire wolves, cave lions, timber wolves, domesticated dogs, and humans. There are also a few  "created" species such as the Fringe Dire Wolf and Hellbeasts, as well as a few pack-specific species that have more details here.

Do you allow magic?
Despite a fair amount of whimsy, we do not allow powerplayable magic such as shooting fireballs, flying wolves,  telekenises, or other world-breaking features that would require a complicated fight system. We do allow things like ghosts and minor psychics, but they cannot influence other characters without the player's consent.

What about Hellions/Hellbeasts?
Hellions are just weird looking animals. They are not any more powerful than their standard animal counterpart (i.e., a hellhound is not innately stronger than a wolf).

Can my character be strange/unnatural colors?
Absolutely. We do not restrict character colors. Sparklewolf your heart out.

I can't draw my character!
Visual references aren’t required. That said, we do have templates you can use to design your character, and we allow stock photos and for-free-use art. You may only use art that was made by you, made for you, or for free-use. We do not condone art theft.

What's the land look like?
View and read about our setting here.

Does IDS have a plot?
IDS is both open world and open plot. We do not have an overarching story other than “animals live in this fictional area; they are trying to thrive” and our backstory. Members create their own plots, groups, and packs.

Can I make my own pack?
Yes! Outside a few still around from the beginning, all packs are member created. To learn how to start your own, go here.

What is The Reach?
The Reach is where you claim land and make your own pack.

Do I have to join a pack?
No. You can play in the neutral section, which encompasses everything in the playable world (including beyond it, i.e, “beyond the Fringe”, "over the Chasm") outside the packlands.

Can I make a group in the neutrals instead of a pack?
Yes, sure.

I want to join a pack, but there are so many. How do I know which one to join?
To learn about the current packs, check out the pack guidebook. You can also ask the forum for suggestions.

Are we allowed to roleplay in multiple threads at once?
Yes. There are some exceptions (fights where your character may die, etc.) but this forum uses "liquid time". Multiple threads with any certain character is fine.
