After lazing all day while the summer heat baked the dry grasses a crisp golden hue, Reese was carving a path to another copse of woods. He could hear a gurgle of a brook ahead of him and a refreshing evening drink felt particularly good right now.

Traveling was hard work, especially when you weren't all too sure where to head to next. All he knew was that he wanted to keep tabs on his family in Nardir. They had left the marshes quite some time ago and he wasn't all too sure where they were headed from there. Though honestly with their luck they had probably moved on from those lands too. So meandering it was, he didn't know his family had an alliance with Inaria, nor did he know they had headed back to their original hunting grounds lately from just before he was born.

He sighed as the boughs of the trees swept over him, further refreshing him from the fading summer heat. The gathering dusk would soon make way for stars above. He could make a new bearing from those. His mouth began to moisten from the sound of the brook and he made a beeline for the water. He lapped lightly for a moment, not wanting to upset his dry stomach or make him queasy, and began to look around at his surroundings. The ferns were thick and the moss was high here. Believing he was alone he dipped his head back down for another drink.

Days like this one were spent mostly in hiding, avoiding the chance of being found. If she couldn't be seen, she couldn't be captured.

And she wouldn't be captured.

But on this day, something wasn't right. She could hear them coming for her. She could feel them getting closer.
They're here.
"No. No, they can't be."
They're here. Run.

She always listened, even when she was too tired and too frightened. Bad things happened when she didn't listen.

Long, hazardous strides helped her weave through the thick woods. She couldn't remember how long she'd been running, but she knew she couldn't stop until being told it was safe. They would follow her, and so the distance between her and them had to be great.

Her fleeing brought her to a clearing, and to her surprise she landed with a large splash in a small, cold stream. It seemed to wake her from her blind frenzy, soaked to the bone as she was left face to face with a grey-male.

He's dangerous. All strangers are dangerous.
"PLEASE! She screamed, flinching away from the red-striped stranger. She avoided eye contact religiously, "Please, I don't want to go b-b-back, please... p-p-please just l-let me go."

Water dripped from his maw as he pulled his head up with a start when a startling crash from the underbrush and subsequent splash of water revealed a dark grey smaller female scrambling in front of him in a high shrill panic.

Reese was stock still for a moment as she screamed and shook about not wanting to go back, letting her go... Literally begging him as if he the one who was meant to capture her. His brown eyes roved over her with concern assessing her features and health. She was obviously not ok so he didn't bother opening his mouth to ask her the question. Silently he looked around to see if her captures where close behind her, listening in the aftermath of her crashing for a pursuit. He couldn't hear anything besides her, couldn't see anything rustling in the underbrush. He slowly swung his head back to her and not wanting to be any more threatening he took a step back. She could be running from slavers, or she could be bait used by the slavers to catch him. Regardless she genuinely neede help or she was an incredibly good actress.

He looked around again, keeping an eye on her, to see if he could sense anyone else again. Slavers lying in wait for him to take the bait, or waiting for him to stall the girl if she was indeed running from them.

"I'm not holding you, but... who is chasing you? I don't hear anyone." He asked calmly. He couldn't feel any other presence except hers and his own. No scents on the breeze, no rustling underbrush. He felt very alone with her.
