Snowbound - Rowan - November 25, 2018

It sounds unusual to hibernate through summer but Rowan is anything but usual.
The strange little otter like creature crawls out of a snug den under a conifer and oranges over to a nearby stream. He punches through the ice with a paw and laps up some chilling water before a fish practically swims into his jaws but unfortunately Rowan is startled by this and leaps back losing the opritune catch.
"Well then" the hellion says "what am i going to do now"

RE: Snowbound - Dominix - November 25, 2018

The time Dominix had spent in Ardent had been spent largely alone, which might have bothered a more socially needy sort of creature. But even with his love for family, even with his enjoyment of others, all Dominix had ever really needed were the caribou.

Even with his help though, his herd had a rough winter the year before, and their numbers were still suffering. The weak, old, and injured had been already fallen, and the young and healthy were all needed to bolster the falling numbers so he didn't feel comfortable taking any from the herd for his own use. Getting ready to go into winter, though, he needed to be thinking about putting on fat stores and preserving more meat for the lean times which meant something larger and richer than snowshoe hares or ptarmigan. But, it had already snowed and the heard began to slow down.

He left the caribou herd to continue their slow southward migration on their own. He had noticed some time back that as this herd became more tamed, much like his family's herds back home, they tended to remain together more and longer than the wilder herds. With him to guide them to richer feeding grounds they had less need to disperse after the fall rut, though eventually in the deep winter when lichen was too scarce even for his keen nose and experience to find in large amounts, they would spread out too far for him to keep track of every individual alone. That was when he would lose the most of the year's casualties. The rut was coming soon for them as well, and for that couple weeks the bulls would be in danger not only from each other but from opportunistic predators. For now though he didn't need to worry as much about leaving them. They would stay together on the migration path, while he put up supplies elsewhere.

Lifting his nose to the wind, Dominix breathed deeply. It was the moose rutting season, which put them high on the list of possible hunting, but while the rut made the bull moose vulnerable it also made them dangerous. Moose were dangerous at the best of times, let alone when they were maddened by the scent of cows in estrus, and at close to a thousand pounds or more they had a lot of bulk to back up their belligerence.

It didn't take long for him to catch the scent of a wounded bull. The blood wasn't as fresh smelling as from a new injury. Maybe a couple days old injury that was still weeping, which was all to the better as far as he was concerned. A fresh wound meant a freshly wounded bull, which while it could mean a bull tired from battle, it could also very well mean an angry adrenaline fueled monster. But one that had been this badly injured days ago was a bull whose injured body had had time to stiffen up, who'd been losing blood off and on for days, with infection setting in and deteriorating condition. It would be the ideal prey, if he could take it down safely. Zephis turned his head, eyes wide. A couple yards away stood a figure, short and a little slinky. Hmmm…Dominix thought. Before he knew it, his feet were carrying him directly to the figure.

RE: Snowbound - Rowan - November 25, 2018

Thinking hard and staring at the stream Rowan didn't notice the Wolf approaching which was quite a feat for such a small animal so when dominix reached the other like hellion and Rowan saw the hulking figure of the Wolf it gave him quite the start and his hybrid legs propelled him up to the shoulder of the Wolf before he fell, stammering as he landed
"Wh-oa-tohg-who-the-stars!"

RE: Snowbound - Dominix - November 26, 2018

It began to snow,The snow kept going, as if it matched Dominix’x frustrated mood. He was still confined to the iced over river, and didn’t appreciate it. Although, he did find new places here and there.
The hellion jumped as high as his shoulder, and Dominix backed away when he landed. He didn’t mean to scare him, he just wanted to know what the creature was doing here.
The creature looked startled, Dominix tilted his head.
“Sorry I startled you…”
He looked around to see if anyone else was here.
Nope, doesn’t look like it…Dominix said to himself
He sat,thought,and waited.
The snow continued ceaselessly, falling down  an unbelievable amount of frozen water onto the earth, but he hardly minded it. In fact,he liked it…prefured it really. Cold and blank…just like him.

RE: Snowbound - Rowan - November 27, 2018

The hellion accepted the apology and sat back down at the stream one paw poised over the water and waited.

Soon another fish flashed by the hole in the ice and Rowan hooked it on his claws bringing it up onto the bank before killing it with a swift bite behind the neck

"Do you want some? It's big enough to share." The hellion asked the wolf

RE: Snowbound - Dominix - December 03, 2018

“Do you want some? It's big enough to share."
“Sure, thanks.”
That was the best offer he’s had in weeks. And the best meal.
He sat up and looked down at the little creature.
An idea came to Dominix’s head.
He carefull picked the otter creature up and but him on his back.
Seemed like a good idea at the time, but he looked at the creature.
Well, he was on his back already, no use getting down now.
Dominx looked down.
“It looks like the fish got away, guess he’s a fighter.”
“Where to?” He said laughing.
