Ecotone - March - April 04, 2018

A thin ray of light slowly illuminated the desert sky as the sun started to creep upwards, spreading its warmth to cover the ground like a blanket. Along with the sun came a cool breeze that swept over the dry dirt, rolling a few of the many dry tumbleweeds between the hard rocks and withered trees, moving till they eventually got caught on something, or managed to make it across the ecotone that was the transition from desert to forest.

A figure appeared then, stretching and moving with the dawn breeze like the tumbleweeds. He appeared from the shadow of a boulder, and shook his dusty coat as he moved into the open. He turned to face the morning sun, and the light touched the orange bib of fur on his throat, gently lighting it up like the embers of a fire. A pair of ram horns crowned his head, framing his face and surrounding the base of his long ears. The hellhare’s eyes were half-lidded, his nose twitching, and ears slightly rotating. He stood this way for more than a minute, eyes looking off into the sunrise until he eventually turned his back to the sun and started slowly loping to the west.

Marches feet soon developed a steady rhythm as he walked across the desert, amber eyes focused on the barely visible tree line in the distance. He had spotted it last night after climbing onto a boulder to get a better view of his surroundings, and decided it was his target for the next day. March hadn't been to a forest, or any place with green vegetation, for almost three months. He had wandered into the desert and gotten lost, being forced to battle heat and predators by himself. But March seemed to have finally found his way out, and as the sun rose higher into the sky, he picked up his pace, working his way into steady jog.

His feet kicked up dust, coating his fur with a new layer of dirt, but he continued running. March was focused on reaching the trees, and his mind raced with the things he could do once he reached his destination. He could eat food that wasn't shriveled and dried by the sun. He could drink water that wasn't filthy or guarded by some nasty coyote. He could rest in the shade without his life depending on him to do so. March’s brain was filled with thoughts, and his body ran on autopilot, moving through the desert towards the growing treeline.

RE: Ecotone - WishingWind - April 30, 2018

A moving object caught her Saturn red and Maple green gaze. She tilted her head so she could get a better view. She thought to herself when she saw the creature; Food? No, its was too big to be an animal of food. She got up fast when its started to run, she started to jog after it, she was a fast wolf of her breed so she caught up with it, but it was hard. Wishingwind said to herself; 'its looks like a hare!' Her mouth watered, but instead of tackling it, she ran with it. She ran with it as if it were a kind of her own. She ran beside it as if she were running with it to guard it. Her tongue lolling out of her mouth and her shoulders rolling. Her eyes widen when the trees crawled up on her. Was she really running that fast? It didnt matter, there was water were there were trees and she was exhausted and dehydrated. She slowed her pace to a fast jog and stopped when she reached the grass. She glanced over at the creature that reached the forest before she. Wishingwind didnt want to startle the animal so she layed down and set her head on her paws and wrapped her tail around her side.
